In Case You Missed the AIA Conference on Architecture in Las Vegas
Recently, Permacast participated in the American Institute of Architects’ Conference on Architecture. This annual conference is dedicated to revealing what’s new and relevant in the world of architecture. Each year, the conference is held in a different city, typically those known for their dynamic architecture. In 2019, the AIA chose Las Vegas. Las Vegas is full of some of the most iconic architecture in the world and provides inspiration to designers everywhere, creating a lasting influence throughout the world of architecture.
Permacast Precast Concrete Fencing & Walls was proud to participate with a display booth at the expo. It was exciting having the conference take place in several iconic buildings, as well as the architecture tour of Las Vegas. Some of the noted locations we visited are:
The Las Vegas Convention Center
The main events, talks, keynotes, and exposition all took place in the Las Vegas Convention Center, one of the largest single-story structures in the world. Famous for once hosting The Beatles, this building will undergo renovations in 2021 to move it into the future of convention hosting.
Westgate Resort & Casino
Many of the CE sessions took place in the Westgate Resort & Casino. Designed by Martin Stern, Jr., this property features over 3,000 guest rooms in total and was the largest hotel in the world in the 1990s.
Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas
The Conference on Architecture’s signature event, The Party!, was held at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas. Located in the trendy new Linq District, this enormous bowling alley and event stage was labeled “one of the most incredible places on earth” by Rolling Stone Magazine and includes a concert stage made out of recycled truck tires.
Paris Las Vegas Hotel
Our Emerging Professionals Party was held on the rooftop of the Paris Las Vegas Hotel under the hotel’s Eiffel Tower. The structure was originally intended to be a full-scale replica of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, but interfered with air traffic at nearby McCarran Airport. The height of this venue still offers amazing skyline views.
XS at the Wynn Resort & Casino
The Opening Night Celebration allowed us to experience XS at the Wynn Resort & Casino, a structure inspired by the curves of the human body. Besides entering the nightclub via a golden staircase, this venue features a 10-foot rotating chandelier.
Of course, the hardest decision to make during the conference was which of the 150 architecture tours to participate in. Architect-led, these tours are expertly curated and brought us to some of the most prolific and historic designs in Las Vegas.
As usual, we came home inspired and exhilarated at the possibilities that abound as the world of architecture moves into the future. Permacast Precast Concrete Fencing & Walls is looking forward to being an essential part of your next building and design project, knowing we are equipped to provide you with everything it takes to create a sound, lasting structure. We’re also looking forward to next year’s AIA Conference on Architecture, to be held in the visual wonderland of Los Angeles.
