Fairlie-Poplar Historic Districts
While many large cities have a fun downtown and charming historic district, Atlanta’s Fairlie-Poplar Historic District is certainly a draw with its fine Victorian architecture, performing arts culture, and vibrant street art on every corner. Standing 11 stories tall and constructed five years prior to the one in New York City, the Flatiron Building is credited as one of the city’s most iconic buildings. Fairlie-Poplar is also home to The Blazer Theater at Herren’s and other live performance venues, including the Rialto Center for the Arts and The Tabernacle. Here, you can enjoy everything from independent plays to jazz and world music and attend hit concerts. While discovering Atlanta’s historic district, or after a jaw-dropping performance, you do not want to miss out on the highly underrated, locally-owned restaurants.
Exploring Atlanta with the whole family is a breeze with a plethora of museums, attractions, and centers right at your fingertips. Children will have a great day at LEGOLAND Discovery Center, complete with factory tours and rides, the Center for Puppetry Arts, where Sesame Street and The Muppet Show characters can be found, and the World of Coca-Cola, to ignite the taste buds, olfactory scenes, and curiosity. Other popular favorites include the world’s largest aquarium, otherwise known as the Georgia Aquarium, the breathtaking Atlanta Botanical Garden, and the extraordinary High Museum of Art. Immerse yourself in history and the Civil Rights Movement by touring Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Sites through the National Park Service or experiencing the interactive interpretation of these important moments in time at the Center for Civil and Human Rights.
Parks and Nature Areas
Don’t be fooled by the abundance of architecture, storefronts, and tourist attractions, Atlanta, GA is also the perfect location to connect with nature at Lullwater Preserve or Piedmont Park or take a peaceful stroll through Atlanta’s largest park of 268 acres, Chastain Park, or the city’s oldest, Grant Park. The world-famous Centennial Olympic Park was built in 1996 to accommodate the Olympic Games. Today, you can marvel at the magnificent view of the Downtown Atlanta skyline, especially from the SkyView Ferris Wheel, or take a moment to watch the Fountain of Rings “dance” in the evening.
