LNG Trends

You may have already heard about the increased use of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) in our industry. This new compound is making waves as a safe, versatile alternative to other sources of energy. Not only is LNG a safe alternative to traditional fossil fuels, but the economic and environmental benefits of using LNG will have a positive global impact, making it a politically sound choice as well. For all of these reasons and more, LNG facilities are growing rapidly. Permacast Precast Concrete Fencing & Walls proudly supports this growth by providing durable, lasting and affordable containers for LNG at these facilities. We’re excited to share with you what we’ve learned and where we’re headed with LNG.

LNG Facilities on the Rise

From 2010 to 2018, there has been a 29% increase in the number of LNG facilities in the U.S. alone, along with a 23% increase in the number of barrels of LNG produced each year. With the ability to transport LNG on trucks or trains, it is becoming increasingly easier to provide LNG to remote regions of the country where natural gas pipelines may not reach, may freeze in colder temperatures, or simply create more demand than the supply can meet. By installing many small LNG facilities in these specific areas, providers can keep costs low and maintain a flow of resources to hospitals, college campuses, and other larger institutions in the event of emergencies. The easy transport of LNG also makes it far more possible to fuel ships and industrial sites. Bringing LNG safely to areas with hard-to-reach energy needs for such a low cost is quickly becoming an obvious answer to many energy issues.

Versatility of LNG

By liquifying natural gas at a very cold temperature (-260 degrees Fahrenheit), we conserve space, storing far more of the gas than in its gaseous state. As a non-toxic, non-corrosive substance, LNG can be safely stored long-term without negative effects. Not only can it be used to fuel power plants, but LNG as a raw material can be used in paints, fertilizers, plastics, antifreeze, dyes, and medicines. The sheer availability of this resource coupled with the multiple applications for use makes this affordable resource even more valuable in its versatility.

Economic Benefits of LNG

Not only is LNG a safe, available resource, it also exists in abundance. Currently, the U.S. has enough LNG to meet all of our nation’s energy needs and still supply products to our trading partners abroad. Because of its availability and versatility, LNG could reduce U.S. spending by several billion dollars each year for the next 15-20 years. The increased use of the material and operation of LNG facilities is projected to create over 665,000 new jobs in the U.S. as well.

Environmental Benefits of LNG

As a natural resource, LNG is already a safe substance to use, sell, and trade. Coupled with the understanding that it is also clean and safe, LNG becomes one of the most environmentally-friendly options available. Non-toxic and non-corrosive means this substance poses very little risk to operators and anyone else working in or around LNG plants. Surrounding these plants and storage silos with Permacast Precast Concrete Walls provides even more safety and assurance that the LNG will remain safely housed in its facility until needed.

As we move forward in an industry that always seeks safety, affordability, and versatility, it only makes sense to support the use of LNG. Permacast is proud to be one of the leading companies in the construction of facilities that will enable LNG to become more useful and accessible in the coming years.
