Permacast Walls – The Perfect Choice for LNG Storage

As an industry leader in producing strong and dependable concrete walls quicker and more cost-effectively than any others in the industry, Permacast is also the perfect solution for manufacturing Vapor Barrier Walls for the containment of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG).

As we advance into the 21st century, the use of liquified natural gas is rising due to its economic and energy-efficient advantages. Also, since LNG can be safely transported and stored, the need for safe vapor barrier containment facilities is on the rise. This is where Permacast comes in – our legendary precast wall systems are perfect for constructing Vapor Barrier Walls, perimeter walls, sound abatement walls, and utility walls around LNG storage facilities.

What is Liquified Natural Gas?
Liquified Natural Gas, also known as LNG, is the fastest-growing fossil fuel. To clarify, LNG is natural gas in a liquified state. By cooling natural gas to about -260 degrees Fahrenheit (-162 degrees Celcius), the gas liquefies, reducing it to approximately 1/600th of its original size. This makes transport and storage much easier and far more cost-effective.

Is LNG Safe?
LNG is odorless, colorless, non-toxic, and non-corrosive. Safety hazards can include flammability upon returning to a gaseous state, freezing, and asphyxia, though these concerns are minimal when LNG is stored safely and correctly. Recent safety breaches at a top natural gas exporter have revealed the need for well-built vapor barrier walls like Permacast can provide. In its restored gaseous state, LNG can be used not just to fuel power plants but as a raw material in paints, fertilizers, plastics, antifreeze, dyes, and medicines. As a fuel, LNG can be used for industrial or business and residential purposes, in the production of anything from producing steel, paper, and electricity to providing heating and cooking sources.

What are the Benefits of Using LNG?
Not only is LNG safe and versatile, but it is also clean-burning, emitting half as much carbon dioxide as coal. There is also an abundance of this amazing natural resource, with over 2,300 trillion cubic feet available in the U.S. alone- enough to meet our entire nation’s domestic needs and still supply our trading partners abroad. The economic benefits, not to mention the geopolitical benefits of trading such a clean, safe, natural resource, are mind-boggling. Using LNG in the U.S. will reduce spending, adding $7 to $20 billion annually to the U.S. economy, and is projected to create 665,000 new jobs each year for the next 15-20 years.
