What You Should Never Do to Precast Concrete

Precast concrete has many advantages, especially when it comes to wall or fences. It is known for its extraordinary durability and is highly recommended by users. But just like all incredible things, there are limitations in using precast concrete whether if it’s used for buildings, construction of houses, and more. All you have to ensure is carefully implemented installation, and avoid things you should never do with high-grade precast concrete.

What Should You Never Do to High-Grade Precast Concrete

Most of these situations occur with precast concrete walls, for buildings.  Here are the things you should never do to precast concrete.

Weather

Good news! Precast concrete can be used in every climate zone from -50°C to +50°C. So, one big “don’t” is don’t worry about the weather!  Precast concrete can withstand even the most severe weather conditions.

Do not ignore the control of water and two possible sources of moisture – vapor in the air and rain.

High humidity within a building can be a temporary problem. Water during the construction of wet operations on site is usually converted into water vapour once the materials are dry. Always assess the need for a vapour barrier relative to the amount of water which may collect or cause potential harm to the wall.

Do not leave even one failed metal connection

In some cases, even on a short period of service, only one connection failure can be extremely costly. Keep in mind that a failure is caused by the removal of metal by corrosion, but even from expansive forces set up by the metals of corrosion.

Do not take the basic layout lightly.

There are various reasons to take the basic layout seriously.  Make sure you are using a reputable and professional company to lay out your plan for precast concrete.  Be wary of transferring loads onto wall panels that were not actually designed to be load-bearing.

Precast concrete is used for various reasons, which is why it’s difficult to say what the right process is if you don’t know what you’re using it for. Overall, it’s best to use a company that specializes, like we do with fences and retaining walls.  For more information on our areas of expertise, check out our website or contact one of our representatives!
